Writing this without apologising for existing
A second-marriage biodata does not need to sound apologetic. Divorce is a fact of life, khula is an Islamic right, and remarriage is a Sunnah. The Pakistani rishta market applies more stigma than the deen does; the biodata is your one chance to set the tone. Neutral factual language reads as maturity. Defensive or self-deprecating language reads as unresolved.
This article specifies the extra fields a second-marriage biodata needs, gives three sample phrasings for each (none defensive), and provides two filled samples.
The extra fields the format needs
Marital status line
One neutral factual line, always. Three sample phrasings:
"Divorced, khula finalised 2023."
"Divorced, talaq 2022, no children."
"Separated, waiting on khula (expected complete by June 2026)."
Do not explain, do not blame, do not use adjectives (unfortunate, difficult, painful). Neutrality wins matches.
Children and custody
"One daughter, age 4, custody with me, lives with me."
"Two children (son 8, daughter 5), custody shared, weekends with father."
"No children."
Age, gender, custody, residence. If custody is a live legal matter, add "custody currently in court, expected resolved by [month]".
Iddat status
"Iddat completed 2023."
"Currently in iddat, ends [month]."
For women, this is Islamically required for the family to know before serious discussion. Include it in the marital-status area of the biodata.
Documentation readiness
Do not put document status on the biodata itself; instead, state at the second meeting: "khula deed and custody papers are available for your family to review". This signals confidence without oversharing.

What to leave off entirely
- The reasons the previous marriage ended
- Anything about the former spouse
- Emotional context ("difficult period", "learning experience")
- Length of previous marriage (state it verbally if directly asked at meeting)
- Photographs from the previous wedding
How to circulate a second-marriage biodata
